You must have gained a lot of feathers on your cap by now since you were a child. People may have been amazed by your success in some field or other. But the fundamental characteristic that has enabled you to gain such success is your power of Concentration.
Last week I heard a lecture by the renowned monk Swami Sarvapriyananda of Rama Krishna Mission. He elaborated so nicely on the essence and characteristics of Concentration. He drew the similarity of a concentrating human being to the focus of the snake, say a cobra which stands still with its hood uplifted, focusing on its prey or the object it would sting. In the process, it is so concentrated that the surrounding becomes secondary. Any person with high Concentration is also oblivious to the surroundings.
The capacity to focus on something or do a task at will is Concentration. Controlling attention is a requirement for Concentration. The ability to focus entirely on one thing, concept, or thinking while blocking out all other unrelated thoughts, ideas, and sensations is the most crucial aspect of Concentration.
You can perform one item at a time rather than several things at once if you use your strength of Concentration (thereby losing your attention, energy, and time). We all utilize our capacity for focus daily, but some people have honed it. Concentrating denotes being in a cantered condition (con and centrum). It refers to the process of focusing the mind on a particular idea. Every person has to practice both subjective and objective focus. In other words, every person aims with varying degrees of accuracy at focusing on a point inside and outside his or her own universe.
While you focus only on nature, such as when mastering a skill, a career, a science, an art, or another type of business, you demonstrate concentration “without.” Outgoing or good mental energy is Evolution. This will be referred to as Objective Concentration. Focusing “inside” suggests turning inward and focusing on internal concepts such as “God,” “Spirit,” “Heaven,” “Religion,” “Peace,” “Nirvana,” “Eternity,” etc. Involution, or entering or negative energy, is what is going on.
Even something as simple as eating requires paying attention to your consumption. You must focus on the work at hand if you want to succeed at even the simplest things. You run the risk of being in an accident if you are driving and are not paying attention to the running vehicles ahead. To succeed, one must give a task their undivided attention and Concentration until it is finished.
However, with all the things that might divert your attention, how can you strengthen your ability to focus? Focusing all of your senses on one specific job or item while using all of your available resources to complete the task is what is meant by Concentration. The ability to focus entirely on a job for whatever length you wish and to keep your mind off of things you do not deem necessary is another crucial aspect of Concentration.
You prevent your energy from dwindling to unimportant ideas when you give a single thought or job your whole Concentration. The ability to focus is vital to take control of your life. When you improve your ability to focus, your mind will follow your ideas and keep you free of pointless worries and thoughts. Additionally, having control over your studies will provide you mental tranquilly.
You will benefit much from increasing your capacity for focus. You get mental control, serenity, improved memory, inner strength, self-assurance, freedom from pointless ideas, sharp Concentration, happiness, firm decisiveness, practical, creative usage, meditating capacity, and many other benefits.
Our everyday routines prevent us from honing our capacity for focus. Our restless mind, a slave to the thought process, is one of the significant barriers. We constantly have something on our minds which occupies our minds with unimportant thoughts. Concentration may be enjoyable if we approach it with the proper mindset, confidence, and positive outlook.
One may completely destroy your belief in your limitations and all fear and other harmful thought forces that continually fight against you if you merely know that when you focus intensely. If you connect with concepts of omnipotence. However, you should have strong confidence that any endeavor you do will be successful in their place. Also there is need to manage your mental creations, which help shape your physical surroundings when you learn how to focus and strengthen your mind. As a result, you become the master of circumstances and the king or queen of your realm.
What you want and don’t want may be easily incorporated into your life. You must use your free will to decide this issue. As long as you want what is right, no barriers stand in your way. If you make a terrible decision, you are going against the universe’s all-powerful designs and deserve to fail. However, if you build your aspirations on justice and goodwill, you may take advantage of the positive forces of universal currents and can count on eventual success even if things may not initially seem promising.
Never be distracted by fleeting appearances; keep a firm conviction in your eventual triumph. Plan carefully and ensure your actions do not counter the currents of global justice. Keep the destructive and antagonistic energies of fear and anger and any of its satellites at bay. That is the most important thing to keep in mind.
Put 100 per cent of your focus into whatever you do. Never stop working on a project before finishing it. You must practice flawless one-pointed attention to the task at hand. Reducing desires and activities, giving up material possessions, isolation, stillness, training the senses, destroying lust and greed, controlling anger, and avoiding contact with unwanted people are all excellent ways to improve one’s capacity for focus.
